TYPES OF CROPS GROWN IN NAVLOK

The crop grown in Navlok is Dependent on the season. The farmers grow Kharif crop during the Monsoon Season, Which generally last from April to October. The Kharif crops grown in Navlok are Jowar (Sorghum), Rice, Millet, Maize, Soyabean, groundnut, etc. The farmers in Navlok sow Rabi crops in winter and harvest them in the spring season. The Rabi crops that are grown in Navlok are Wheat, Barley, potato, Mustard, Coriander, etc. The farmers in Navlok also grow some Cash crops like Sugarcane, Cotton, jute and Oilseeds. The farmers are getting information and training about the types of crops and when to grow them by The Information and Training Center for Farmers (ITCF) which has proved to be very beneficial for the farmers of Navlok.

TOPOGRAPHY OF NAVLOK

Navlok is located in Rajasthan. Due to the rivers in the Gangetic plains the land of Navlok is highly fertile, providing the farmers a lot of profit on the crops. Chambal (Name of the river that passes from Navlok) River passes from the outskirts of the village which is used to make hydroelectricity in Navlok. The village is filled with greenery and beauty. The people of Navlok have taken an initiative to keep their village clean and throwing all the garbage in dustbins following the Swach Bharat Abhiyan, which adds seven stars to the beauty of the village.

DIFFERENT METHODS OF AGRICULTURE

Navlok is an agriculture based village, with most of its population being farmers; many different methods of agriculture are being practiced in Navlok. The farmers of Navlok mainly practice Commercial agriculture which includes growing of crops in large scale plantations and shipping of them to other cities and places to earn money. Some farmers also practice Plantation farming which is growing cash crops in large scale plantations, in this type agriculture it is important to be technically advanced and the farmers should be aware of efficient methods of cultivation and tools including fertilizers and irrigation facilities. The farmers in Navlok have formed United Farmers Cooperation of Navlok (UFCN). There are some people in Navlok which practice Dairy farming and they too have formed a cooperative called United Milkmen Cooperation of Navlok (UMCN) to earn some more money.

CROP INSURANCE

Whenever the farmers of Navlok sow a new crop they do an insurance of the crop by being benefitted from The Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana. So the farmers of Navlok do not need to worry about the crop, if their crop get any kind of damage they can get the money from the insurance.

KISAN CREDIT CARD

The Kisan credit card scheme launched by the government of India in August 1998 helps the farmers of Navlok a lot. The farmers take loans for the tools and other equipment used to grow a good crop.

IRRIGATION METHODS

Due to the training given by the Training and Information Center, mostly all farmers of Navlok have adopted the drip irrigation to reduce the loss of water but some of the farmers are also using the surface and subsurface methods of irrigation.
